I SEEK TO CREATE A SAFE AND EXPANSIVE SPACE FOR FOLKS WHO DON’T FEEL AT HOME INSIDE OF TRADITIONAL FITNESS SETTINGS
WHAT I OFFER:
I offer an integrated approach to training that takes your personal history into account. I work with my clients to reframe their relationships to movement, their bodies, and their individual capacities and limits. My goal is to see clients access a greater level of ease in their bodies and find pleasure in moving, learning and growing as embodied individuals.
I draw on my diverse background in dance, somatic + alignment-based practices, yoga, acrobatics and strength training to intuitively formulate appropriate (and exciting!) programs for my clients that meet you where you are. Whether your desire is to be pushed harder than you feel you can push yourself , or if you are needing gentleness and grounding (or both!), we will collaborate on an approach that feels good to you in your body.
I ACTIVELY WORK TO DISMANTLE DIET CULTURE, FAT-PHOBIA, TRANSPHOBIA, ABLEISM AND WHITE SUPREMACY IN MY OWN LANGUAGE AND PRACTICE. I WORK WITH ALL BODIES.
for this reason, I do not discuss weight, body size or nutrition with clients. We will formulate goals around how you want to feel and move through the world.
STRENGTH TRAINING + STABILIZATION
Starting from the core and glute muscles as the center of your support system, we will work through the body in an integrated and dynamic way - allowing you to ground and find your strength from an aligned place. This may include a combination of yoga, weight-lifting and movements using your own bodyweight.
BREATHING + EMBODIMENT PRACTICES
We will start or end each session with different breathing techniques to reset the nervous system and activate essential core muscles for movement. There will also be a component of mindfulness throughout as well as visualizations and guided meditation using the body as a focal point.
FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT + INJURY PREVENTION
We will work on strengthening for movements that you do in your day-to-day life and work - finding aligned and supportive alternatives to habitual movement patterns that result in pain or dysfunction.
PAIN RELIEF + MOBILITY WORK
I will guide you through various myofascial release strategies [like foam-rolling and self-massage] as well as safe and aligned stretches as ways of managing chronic pain and finding greater access and aliveness in your body.
I understand that we all have our own individual histories that live in our bodies - and that these histories can act as barriers to embodiment and joyful movement. As a trainer, my aim is to bring greater ease and pleasure into your experience of living in your body.
for clients living with chronic illness or chronic pain:
We will begin each session by assessing where you are in your body and what kind of movement would serve you - if movement is even appropriate or available. We will build a toolbox of breathing techniques, somatic drop-ins and self-massage for flare ups and necessary moments of pause. I will never shame, judge or “should” you around your movement practice; rather, we will create systems and languages to better understand your needs and how to best care for your body.
For trans, nonbinary and gender-expansive clients:
We have a special awareness of our bodies as queer people - one that is heightened and sometimes hyper-vigilant. We often experience some level of dissonance around how we are seen and interacted with in the world and therefore create strategies of leaving our bodies as a way of coping.
In my work with queer and trans individuals, I hope to offer gender-affirming workouts that feel in alignment with your understanding of yourself and that allow for play, curiosity and empowerment. We will also cultivate strategies together for dropping back into your body - even in the most dysphoric and difficult moments.
